The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) announced yesterday morning that they are not planning to release refunds for 2015 Individual Income Taxes until at least March 1, 2016. This may come as no surprise after last year's delayed state tax filing period, as Illinois introduced new fraud prevention measures to curb identity theft and tax filing fraud.
According to IDOR director Connie Beard:
“Fraud prevention measures implemented by the Department of Revenue during last year’s tax season resulted in an overall savings of nearly $5 million that would have, otherwise, been paid...”
Here's the refund pay schedule released by IDOR:
E-Filed Returns Filed Prior to March 1: 2-3 Weeks from the March 1 date
E-Filed Returns Filed After March 1: 2-3 Weeks from date of filing.
GLA would like to remind its clients that for the quickest possible payout on your refund, it is advised to set up a direct deposit into a checking or savings account. We will be happy to set up any direct deposit for your refund when you come in to file your 2015 tax returns.
